50th edition of the art fair with a Bauhaus special event

COLOGNE FINE ART & DESIGN is the new name of the fair for art, old art, antiques, applied art and design, which will take place in autumn 2019 in Cologne for the 50th time. A new chapter in the chequered history of the fair is thus being written under its new Art Director Daniel Hug, who is also responsible for ART COLOGNE in Cologne. "We are in the middle of the Rhineland, and thus in a region that is unbelievably rich in museums, collections, art dealers and galleries, but especially in dedicated and enthusiastic collectors and art lovers. We want to impress them all with COLOGNE FINE ART & DESIGN", says Hug. Like before, the art fair will show art and other objects in the familiar high quality and across all eras, genres and cultures, presented by leading national and international galleries and dealers. The emphasis on design in the fair name should underline the important role of the applied arts at the end of the 19th and especially in the 20th century.

The fair layout will express the interrelationships of content of the art and objects shown, for example, the influencing of Western art currents by Asian or African art during certain periods. The art fair should become brighter and even more inviting and communicative. A new lighting concept and new visitor guidance with plazas and quiet zones are being planned.

The exhibitors will once again be selected by an expert jury. In addition to this, a jury of museum experts from various disciplines will evaluate and inspect all exhibited works and objects.

The COLOGNE FINE ART & DESIGN Award will also be chosen by a team of experts. However, for the first time, the prize will not be awarded to an artist, but instead to the best stand at the fair: "We want to highlight the entire spectrum of the fair, with all of its quality and its special features, and in this way honour and celebrate the achievements and the personal commitment of our exhibitors", says Daniel Hug.

Other highlights of the upcoming COLOGNE FINE ART & DESIGN also include the special event planned on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of Bauhaus. It will be presented by the Ulrich Fiedler (Berlin), Derda (Berlin) and Berinson (Berlin) galleries. Furniture, paintings, photographs and works on paper from the Bauhaus era will be shown.

Continuing is the exceptionally well-established "Young Collectors Room" special event, which presents select art and other objects from the holdings of the exhibitors that don't cost more than 5,000 Euro. Especially young collectors and art enthusiasts should be inspired here.

COLOGNE FINE ART & DESIGN was founded in 1970 as the Westdeutsche Kunstmesse (West German art fair) and will this year celebrate a turbulent half-century as one of the leading fairs for art, antiques, applied arts and design in Germany. It takes place from Thursday, 21 up to and including Sunday, 24 November 2019, with an opening on 20 November.

EXPONATEC COLOGNE, International trade fair for museums, preservation and cultural heritage will once again run parallel on the early days of the fair (20 to 22 November 2019).
